Triangle Turf Winners
Betting Strategies with Triangle
Triangle Turf can be used in many ways. We've done lots of studies on this subject and would like to share them with you.
Here is a list of seven Triangle betting strategies - beginning with the least successful and ending with our most profitable play:
The $1 Trifecta
Probable Success Rate
1 in 20 wagers using a $1 box of top three Triangle selections.
Arch's Analysis
Despite its popularity, this play rivals the Pick 6 as the most-difficult-to-cash wager at the racetrack. One way of overcoming the poor success rate (above) is to 'wheel' your top Triangle selection to several other horses. Just make sure our Triangle Longshot is in one of the top three slots. That will ensure a good payoff when all is said and done.

The $1 Pick 3
Probable Success Rate
1 in 12 wagers using the investment plan outlined below:
Arch's Analysis
There are ways to cash big-time with this bet, but you need three things to be successful: 1) A solid singleton in one race, or two horses at the very most; 2) The willingness to go 'deep' in each of the other two events with all three of the Triangle selections; and 3) The patience to wait three races for the outcome. So, using two horses in Race A, three horses in Race B and three horses in Race C, the total $1 investment is $18.00.
The Exacta
Probable Success Rate
1 in 8 wagers using a $1 or $2 box of the top two Triangle selections.
Arch's Analysis
You are required to correctly pick the 1-2 finishers in order, but we like the bet because it wins often in our publication. The Exacta 'box' referred to (above) would only cost you $2 for a buck wager and $4 for a two-buck play.

The Quinella
Probable Success Rate
1 in 8 wagers using the top two Triangle selections
Arch's Analysis
This wager costs one-half the Exacta box and the two horses involved can finish 1-2 or 2-1. Of course, the payoff is less, but on many occasions it is more than half of what the Exacta paid - giving all of us an edge in the investment department. Here is an example: In California, where they have the $1 Exacta and $2 Quinella, check the projected payoffs on the television monitors prior to race-time. If a $1 Exacta box ($2 total) on horses A & B pays 22.00 and the $2 Quinella ($2 total) on the same horses pays 26.00, the latter betting strategy is obviously the way to go!
The $2 Daily Double
Probable Success Rate
1 in 6 wagers using the top two Triangle selections in each race.
Arch's Analysis
This is one of the better wagers at the racetrack, and Triangle Turf has been quite successful at it. The Double becomes even more popular for us in California, where they have rolling doubles - or one starting with every race. The player can make a tidy profit with this bet using the Triangle top selection and the Triangle Longshot (often our second pick). That's a total minimum investment of $8.00 when all is said and done.

Flat Bet on the Triangle Turf #1 Selection
Probable Success Rate
1 in 4 wagers at 4-to-1 or better using the top Triangle pick.
Arch's Analysis
Long before all the exotic bets came along, betting to win was the only game in town, and it has prevailed for years and years as the most consistent way to make money at the races. We know from our studies that this Triangle wager - provided the horse goes off at 4-to-1 or better - produces many more profitable days than your typical newspaper handicapper or most other 'informational' services. We do not 'guarantee' a winning existence at the track based on this wager, but we can confidently state that you'll gain an edge over most others by sticking with our top selections and betting them only to win - especially if they are 4-to-1 or better.
And the big winner is...
Flat-bet on the Triangle Longshot
Probable Success Rate
1 in 5 wagers using all eight of the Triangle Longshots.
Arch's Analysis
We know this is the best way to use Triangle Turf and our letters (e-mails) bear that out. We even recommend a win-place wager if the Longshot is 6-to-1 or better. While the frequency of wins (above) is actually lower than in betting our top picks to win, the profit on these wagers is often much greater. The Triangle Longshots is our most popular feature and it's been known to recoup the cover price in a hurry. Furthermore, we always include the Longshot as one of our top 3 selections (unlike most public handicappers). In fact, it is sometimes even the top pick!
